Mental Health Crisis, Self Harm and Suicide Ideation (Culture Care Connect)

The Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Services (PAMS) Culture Care Connect program provides support to individuals and families experiencing thoughts of self-harm and suicidal ideation. Our Culture Care Connect workers are here to provide you with aftercare support following a mental health crisis and give ongoing support to help you get back on your feet again.

 

The Culture Care Connect programs collaborates with a variety of community services to provide a holistic wrap around service to enable people to make the best recovery they can following a suicide attempt or mental health crisis. Culture Care Connect is a no wrong door service, ensuring people can access timely, culturally safe care and support when they need it most.

 

What we offer

Culture Care Connect provides:

  • One-on-one support for individuals needing aftercare support following a mental health crisis or suicide attempt
  • Family and peer support for those impacted by a friend or family member’s suicide attempt
  • Culturally holistic wrap-around support
  • Social and Emotional Wellbeing aftercare
  • Ongoing support following a crisis or suicidal thoughts
  • Connection to clinical, cultural and community supports

 

Who can access this service?

This service is available to anyone aged 15 years and older that are experiencing:

  • Recent self-harm
  • Suicidal crisis
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Mental health concerns

 

Self-referrals accepted, just ask at the reception at any of our clinics or ask your GP to help you complete the referral form during your regular GP visit. We also accept referrals from outside organisations and from family and friends that are concerned about an individual’s mental wellbeing. All referrals are followed up within 24 hours upon receiving the referral.

 

Where services are provided

  • Face-to-face services are available in Newman
  • Services are available via phone or videocall for the following remote locations:
    • Jigalong
    • Punmu
    • Parnngurr
    • Kunawarritji

 

Service hours

Services are available Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
