Martumilli Morning Teas - Connection & Wellbeing

Every second Tuesday, the Martumili morning tea brings artists, community members and the PAMS Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) and programs team together for a shared meal and a yarn.

What started as a simple catch-up has become an important space for connection. Over tea, breakfast and conversation, relationships are formed, stories are shared and people become more familiar with the support available through PAMS.

Recent visits have highlighted just how valuable these gatherings can be. Conversations have ranged from stories of Country and the meaning behind artworks, to ideas for capturing and preserving memories through community scrapbooks. There's also been plenty of time for children to play, families to connect and artists to continue their work in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

These mornings are not about programs or appointments. They're about taking the time to sit together, listen and build trust. By meeting people where they are and creating opportunities for genuine connection, PAMS is continuing to strengthen relationships within the community, one yarn at a time.

From Emily Banks,  NDIS Remote Community Connector at PAMS:

This morning, Tuesday the 14th of July I had the privilege of attending the fortnightly morning tea held at Martumili. I valued my time sitting and yarning with Helen Sampson, learning about the stories of her paintings and their connection to home ‘Jigalong’, playing with future artist young JNR Hollis Williams whilst his family produced beautiful art and discussing with Graham Mintern and Kristy Yanawana scrapbooks, they would like to create to capture these moments and photos we share (Maybe something to look forward to!). I feel privileged to be witness to the art being produced at Martumili and no doubt always leave with a smile on my face.

Even on the coldest Newman mornings, a warm meal and good conversation can go a long way.
