Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training in Pilbara

Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) delivered another Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop in Newman to provide training on suicide first aid.

This program aligns with the Suicide Prevention Plan for the Pilbara, with the PAMS’ Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team coordinating a two-day ASIST workshop to train people on how to apply the suicide intervention model.

ASIST teaches participants to recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide and works with them to develop a plan that will support their immediate safety.

ASIST is a resource for the whole community and PAMS encourages everyone to take an active role in recognizing and supporting people who are at risk.

Thank you to WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA) for funding this initiative.
